Interesting collection of documents related to the second phase of the construction of the Washington Monument. Lot includes:
1) Donation receipt, acknowledging that John S. Hill Esq. contributed $411 to the ''National Washington Monument'', undated but circa 1880s during the second phase of the project, which relied upon public funds for construction. Measures approximately 7.375'' x 11.75''. Toning, tears and some paper loss, overall in fair condition.
2) Book, possibly given to Hill for his donation, complete with numerous pull-outs of maps, schematics, engineering plans, capacity details, etc. regarding the Monument. Letters to Congress from W.W. Corcoran, Chairman of the Joint Commission for the Completion of the Washington Monument, are also bound within, each signed at top by an ''H.A. Carlson''; reports run from 1878-1887. Book is titled in gilt on spine, ''Washington Monument'', with no publishing information within. Measures 6.125'' x 9.5''. Some toning and a few tears to pull-outs. Very good condition.
