Handwritten letter signed by the secretary of either Prince Albert or General Grey to Fanny Duberley, the most famous woman in the Crimea during the Crimean War. Dated 14 December 1854 and with its original envelope, the letter reads: ''Major General Grey has received the Command of His Royal Highness Prince Albert to acknowledge the receipt of Mrs. Duberley's sketch of the portion of the British Army before Sevastopol, which she has been good to send...'' Fanny Duberley was an unusually dedicated Captain's wife who witnessed the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava, which occurred a few months before this letter. 2pp. letter on card style stationery measures 4.5'' x 7''. Pencil notation near top edge and a stain to the first page. Very good condition.
