Jean Harlow Autograph
Jean Harlow (born Harlean Harlow Carpenter; March 3, 1911 – June 7, 1937) was an American actress and sex symbol. Often nicknamed the “Blonde Bombshell” and the “Platinum Blonde”, she was popular for her “Laughing Vamp” screen persona. Harlow was in the film industry for only nine years, but she became one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood, whose image in the public eye has endured. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Harlow No. 22 on their greatest female stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema list.
Jean Harlow autographs are rare because her mother signed most of her autographs for her. The handwriting of her mom is much different so it is easy to tell them apart, but there are still many “Mama Jean” autographs out there posing as authentic Jean Harlow autographs. Here are authentic Jean Harlow signature examples that we at NateDSanders.com Auctions sold:
Jean Harlow Autograph on a 10″ x 13″ Photo
Jean Harlow autograph on her photo, inscribed to film director William Wyler. Inscription reads in full: “‘Willie’ darling / Loads of love to you / from Jean.” During her lifetime, much of Harlow’s correspondence and autograph-signing duties were handled by her mother, “Mama Jean” Harlow. This, and the fact that she died at the very young age of 26, make signed items bearing her actual signature truly scarce. This is a superb example of Harlow’s autograph, vintage black and white, measuring 10″ x 13″. Minimal fading, toning, and wear. Near fine condition. Sold for $3,670.
Beautiful and Scarce Jean Harlow Autograph on an 8″ x 10″ Photograph With Her Full Name
Jean Harlow autograph on an artistic 8″ x 10″ photo, featuring a head and shoulders portrait of the actress looking off-camera with her hands crossed. Inscribed in black ink on the image, “To Henry With good wishes from Jean Harlow”. During her lifetime, much of Harlow’s correspondence and autograph-signing duties were handled by her mother, “Mama Jean” Harlow. This, and the fact that she died at the very young age of 26, make signed items bearing her actual signature truly scarce. 8″ x 10″ photo is in fine condition. Sold for $2,136.
