Charlie Parker Autograph

A Charlie Parker autograph is very scarce since he died so early.  A Charlie Parker signed photo was recently sold at Nate D. Sanders Auctions for $10,000 in April 2018. A signed document can sell for $5,000.

Charlie Parker Rare Signed 8″ x 10″ Photo — With Roger Epperson COA

https://natedsanders.com/LotDetail.aspx?inventoryid=48991

A very rare signature by jazz legend Charlie Parker, who here signs an 8″ x 10″ photo, writing, “To The Madcaps, The most in entertainment! Charlie Parker”. Addendum in red ink reads “Joe of”, referring to Madcaps member Joe DiFulvio; the Madcaps were a harmonica duet comprised of DiFulvio and Carl Ford, who performed with big acts of their day, including Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and likely Charlie Parker. Glossy publicity photo has some light creasing, otherwise near fine. With Roger Epperson COA. Sold for $10,000.

We were lucky enough to sell a Charlie Parker autograph on his LP once.  Here it is:

Incredibly Rare Charlie Parker Autograph — and Here, Signed Upon the Record From the Legendary First Dial Recording Session With “Yardbird Suite” and “Moose the Mooche” — With PSA/DNA COA

Fantastic and scarce record with a Charlie Parker autograph, on the original recording of “Yardbird Suite” (1003-A) and “Moose the Mooche” (1003-B) by Dial Records on 28 March 1946. Charlie Parker autograph is on the A Side label and reads in full, “Yours Parkerly (truly) Charlie Parker”. The recording session that produced this record is legendary in music circles, with Miles Davis devoting a whole chapter to it in his autobiography, revealing his unfavorable opinion of Dial Records founder Ross Russell and a bit of the story behind “Moose the Mooche,” allegedly based on Parker’s heroin supplier Emry Byrd, whom Davis claims actually received royalties for the song. The recording session that day was kept a secret (to prevent the hipsters who followed the musicians from interrupting their work) and numerous takes were recorded, as Parker insisted on musical perfection in the ensemble passages. The end result is considered among the finest in jazz stylings. The label lists the Charlie Parker Septet members who recorded that day: “Charlie Parker, alto sax; Lucky Thompson, tenor; Miles Davis, trumpet; Dodo Marmarosa, piano; Vic McMillan, bass, Roy Porter, drums; Alvin Garrison, electric guitar; Supervision — Ross Russell”. The label is rubber-stamped twice on each side with the date “Apr 30 1949”. The record, measuring ten square inches, has been professionally repaired from breaking into five pieces, with break lines only faintly visible. There are two small scratches on the A side and some patterning on the B side that may be an artifact of pressing. Among the finest of jazz collectibles ever at market. With PSA/DNA COA.   Sold for $3,038.
