Incredible March Auction Highlights

The prominent designer Zandra Rhodes made this dress that Princess Diana wore to a 1987 benefit In London.

When Princess Diana began selling her dresses at auctions and giving the money to charity in the 1990s, this was one of the dresses that she auctioned off. With provenance from Christie’s, it is a gorgeous ivory chiffon cocktail dress which Princess Diana wore to a birthright benefit at the London Paladium. The event took place in May of 1987.

Custom Made by Zandra Rhodes

The dress was from the 1985 autumn/winter collection, “India Revisited” and is a longsleeved gown designed in the “Buttons and Bows” pattern with zig-zag bands to the hem on white silk chiffon, laid over its white silk jersey lining. Pleated bodice is studded with pearl beads and sequins, and waistband is made of quilted white satin over the draped skirt.

Adolf Hitler Autographed & Handwritten Police Document From 1909 .

Adolf Hitler was a young 19-year-old when he left his family home in Linz to travel to Vienna to “seek his fortune” much as his father had done before him. He arrived with a family inheritance, which he quickly squandered.

This 1909 police document is an important historic piece from the “what if” portion of his life. At this time, Hitler tried for a second time to gain entrance to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, which again rejected him.

Poor and Homeless

After this rejection, Hitler still refused to work, feeling above anything that he was capable of doing. He signed this police document on August 22, 1909, where he lived until the 16th of September. Four months later he was homeless, and would enter an Assylum for the Shelterless where he would live for several years.

In this  March auction document, he fills in all the fields in his own handwriting of the partially-printed ”Meldzettel”, listing his residence as ”Room 21/ 58 Sechshauserstrasse, Vienna”. For his occupation, he writes ”Schriftsteller”, or writer. No further records exist until his application to the Asylum for the Shelterless in December of that year. The document contains Hitler’s autograph as well.
