Formula 1

Formula One remains the creme de la creme highest class of single-seater auto racing sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). Formula 1 memorabilia is just as hot.  Grand Prix racing began in 1906 and winning a Grand Prix remains the coveted holy grail in the world of racing.

Our Formula 1 memorabilia items auctioned over the year have garnered tremendous prices realized. Take this Graham Hill official 1969 Gold Leaf Team Formula One racing suit, first offered as a lottery prize by Club Lotus 40+ years ago. It sold for $25,428.

In our current auction, we have three similar items — racesuits — each worn by race car legends:

David Coulthard worn and signed racesuit from the West McLaren-Mercedes 1998 Formula 1, the last year of his incredible career.

Also known as “DC”, Coulthard led an epic career becoming a 13-time Grand Prix winner, including twice wins at Monaco.

His one-piece racesuit is signed in black felt tip upon the left breast beneath the Warnsteiner logo and on the left rear shoulder above the Mercedes-Benz logo. Additionally, Coulthard’s name and Scottish Saltire are printed above the Velcro belt. Nomex suit by Sparco is marked on the label, ”Coulthard 5 / 98”.

Check out this awesome video of DC catching a golf ball in a Mercedes. The ace set a new Guinness World Record for the “furthest golf shot caught in a moving car.”

We’ also have up for auction currently, this Lewis Hamilton worn McLaren-Mercedes racesuit from the 2007 German Grand Prix, signed in black felt tip on the left of the front Vodafone logo.  One of the best pieces of Formula 1 memorabilia up for auction.

In 2008 Hamilton became Formula 1 World Champion. Said the racer of his blossoming career, “What people tend to forget is the journey that I had getting to Formula One. There were plenty of years where I had to learn about losing and having bad races.”
