142 years of football is impressive for England’s most loved sport. Competition between various teams has provided fierce cheers and hollers at many a neighborhood pub all over the country for years and years.
The Football Association Challenge Cup, aka FA Cup, is the oldest association British football competition in the world, first held in 1871.

Founded by Ebenezer Morley, a London solicitor with an incredibly impassioned, strong stance on how the game of football should be played.
His ideal rules for the game (above) eventually became incorporated and are upheld today.
The cup itself is adorned with ribbons, in the colors of each team, until of course the winner is established and the trophy is presented.
This trophy is a later version of the original trophy, nicknamed the “little idol” which was used in the very first 1871-72 tournament until it was stolen from a Birmingham shoe shop window, never to be seen again. The tournament has procured tons of memorable wins, upsets, and even records broken.
In this year’s FA Cup final, Wigan Athletic took home its first Cup after victoriously beating Manchester City 1–0 during the final.

2000 F.A. Challenge Cup Winners Medal and Commemorative Medal Awarded to Chelsea’s Celestine Babayaro sold for an incredible $30,819.
This Tommy Hynds 1904 FA Cup winner medal awarded while on the Manchester City football team sold for $12,756.
Phil Neal’s Liverpool 1977 F.A. Cup runners-up medal, the obverse inscribed THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, CHALLENGE CUP, RUNNERS-UP, the rim inscribed SEASON 1976-77, in original fitted case. It sold for $8,924.
The medal was originally sold in The Phil Neal Collection, Christie’s, 13th September 2006, lot 22.
