Paul Cadmus (December 17, 1904 – December 12, 1999) was an American artist. He is best known for his paintings and drawings of nude male figures. His works combined elements of eroticism and social critique to produce a style often called magic realism. He painted with egg tempera.

Paul Cadmus Art; A Charcoal Portrait — “Jen”

American artist Paul Cadmus artwork; a charcoal portrait entitled “Jen”. The artist, best known for his paintings and drawings of male portraits also created public works for the WPA during the 1930’s. The subject of this portrait, Cadmus’ close friend Jensen Yow, was featured in “The Bath,” a 1951 painting in the Whitney Museum collection. His works are also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian collections. The charcoal heightened with white on colored paper is signed “Cadmus” in the lower right corner. The 9.25″ x 14″ drawing is matted and framed to an overall size of 17″ x 21″. Fine condition.

Paul Cadmus Art;  A Charcoal and Chalk Portrait — Portrait of “Jack”, Cadmus’ Famous Muse

American artist Paul Cadmus artwork; acharcoal and chalk portrait on black paper, entitled “Jack”, is signed “Cadmus”. Jack Fontan, a friend of Cadmus and the subject of this portrait, was also featured in “The Bath,” a 1951 painting in the Whitney Museum collection. His works are also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian collections. The 9.5″ x 12.5″ drawing is matted and framed to an overall size of 16″ x 19″. Fine condition.

Paul Cadmus Art – A Drawing of “Enzo”

American artist Paul Cadmus artwork; a 1952 egg tempera portrait on paper, entitled “Enzo” and signed “Cadmus”. Cadmus, best known for his paintings and drawings of male portraits, here creates an imposing portrait, measuring 10.75″ x 15″. Cadmus’ works are included in the collections of major art museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian and the Whitney Museum. The 10.75″ x 15″ drawing is matted and framed to an overall size of 24″ X 26.5″. Numbered C3 on the backing. Fine condition.
