Lot of items from the beloved children's show, ''Captain Kangaroo'', including an original slate used to begin filming, likely from the early years of the show's broadcast run that began in 1955. Collection originates from Peter Birch, the director for the first 25 years of the show, and includes (1) Film slate measuring 15.5'' x 12.5'' with the colorful ''Captain Kangaroo'' block letter logo at top. Heavily worn from use, but overall in very good condition with wood handle in back. (2) Six one-inch film prints, all with ''Captain Kangaroo'' labels on canisters, mostly typed labels and a few handwritten. Some of the prints indicate that they were shipped to TV stations; one indicates it's the ''Horse Show'' and one is ''Holland Outtakes''. Film hasn't been played but appears in very good condition. Metal canisters measure 10.75'' in diameter. (3) Sixty-three pages housed in a ''CBS Interoffice'' envelope with a label reading ''Original Kangaroo Program Material and Ideas''. Some ideas are titled ''Dancing Bear and the Professor'', ''We're Building a Happier World'', ''Golden Slippers'' and cultural rituals from various parts of the world, such as a ''Chinese Wedding Procession'' and ''Mexican Fantasia''. Various sketches accompany some of the story ideas. Some pages are copies, but most appear to be original typed page and sketches. CBS envelope housing pages measures 8.875'' x 11.75''. Envelope is torn on verso, but pages are near fine.
