Zachary Taylor letter signed as President, during the period of only 16 months when he served as Commander-in-Chief, thanking the historian Henry Howe for the book ''Historical Collections of Virginia''. Datelined Washington, 6 August 1849, letter reads in part, ''I have received your favor of April 12th and the accompanying volume entitled 'Historical Collections of Virginia'...I beg you to receive my sincere thanks for this interesting and acceptable work + my best wishes for your health and happiness...[signed] Z. Taylor''. Letter measures 8'' x 10'' on card-style stationery with blank integral sheet. Uniform toning and folds, otherwise near fine condition.
