Gorgeous vellum document signed by William Howard Taft as President. Taft appoints Richard R. Pickering to First Lieutenant of Infantry. Signed ''Wm H Taft'' on 5 July 1911. Document is extraordinarily well preserved for vellum, with virtually no toning and intact blue paper seal. Mild discoloration to lower part of document and at right margin, otherwise near fine condition.
