William Howard Taft typed letter signed as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Dated 5 July 1924, Taft's letter on Supreme Court stationery to Amos P. Wilder of the New Haven Journal-Courier reads in full: ''My dear Amos: I have your letter of June 30th, and am sorry to have to give the same answer to you that I gave to Fred Kingsbury. I have had to give up all speaking. My work on the Court monopolizes all the strength that I can give to it. I have a letter from Kelsey, in which he says that the operation upon Dr. Angell has been a success and that he will soon be able to return to active work. [handwritten] With warmest wishes / Wm H Taft''. Single-page letter measures 8'' x 10.5''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
