White House presentation gavel, borne of wood garnered from the White House roof. Gavel bears inscription plate on its head describing the source of the wood: '''Certified By Centuries' / Northern White Pine After 112 Years of Service / In The White House Roof - 1815 to 1927 / National Lumber Manufacturers Association''. The wood was originally built into the executive mansion under James Madison after the White House was burned by British troops during the War of 1812, and several of these gavels were later made by the National Lumber Manufacturers Association. Measures 10.5'' x 3'' x 2''. Nicks and indentations to wood throughout. Very good.
