First letter on NASW letterhead (National Association of Social Workers) by New York City Chapter Chairman Bernard Fisher is addressed to the NASW Mississippi Chapter. Fisher shares that his members are ''deeply concerned about the situation of the three civil rights workers one of whom, Michael Schwerner, had held membership in our chapter...we have communicated with President Johnson and Attorney General Kennedy deploring the situation and urging protection by authorities for all persons in our country with particular attention to those working for civil rights...'' Second letter is the draft reply by the Mississippi Chapter Chairman. Letters are stapled together at top left, each measuring 8.5'' x 11''. Near fine condition.
