Stan Laurel typed letter signed, with amusing and interesting content giving insight into the modest comedian's character. Dated 20 January 1962, Laurel writes to his pen-pal friend Bill Brown in part, ''...note you saw the 'Toyland' film on Xmas Day, they ran it here too on TV - twice in fact - in the morning & again in the afternoon (they must have been drunk & forgot to change the program.!!) We here had a nice time Xmas, a few visitors etc. nothing exciting.! / No, I wo'nt be attending the Academy Award Afair [sic], it is held just a few blocks from here, but I prefer to stay home & watch it on TV. Thanks for the snapshot of Gene Autry & yourself, he was quite a character was'nt he? (Saucey little Nipper.!!)...You mention about eating Whale Meat - did you ever try it? In England in I947 there was a food shortage, so we ate it quite often, it was listed on the restaurant & Hotel menu's as Steak -- occasionally it tased a little fishy, other times it was delicious. I understand, the fish taste happens if the meat is'nt cut just right, they have to avoid cutting into the veins. Anyway, I could live very well without it.!...[signed] Stan''.
