Stan Laurel typed letter signed, dated 21 August 1962 just days after Marilyn Monroe died, which Laurel reflects upon in the letter. He writes to his pen-pal turned friend Bill Brown, answering a host of questions, in part, ''...I never heard from Chaplin. He lives in Vevey, Switzerland with his wife Oona O'Neil & eight children...I had no particular hobby outside of my work, but my favorite sport was deep sea fishing (Swordfish etc) I had a nice boat fully equipped for this type of fishing...I do'nt recall being nicknamed by Babe or anybody else at any time, always referred to as 'Stan'. / No we never had the opportunity to buy distribution rights of our films unfortunately...The rumor that Mrs L sells Real estate is ridiculous, wonder where the hell those screw balls got that idea from. Its stupid.! / Sad about Marilyn Monroe, also Eddie Cantor's wife...As ever: [signed] Stan Laurel''. Single page letter on Oceana Apartment Hotel stationery, where Laurel lived, measures 7.25'' x 10.5''. Folds, else near fine. With original mailing envelope.
