Sigmund Freud handwritten physician's oath, vowing to fulfill his medical duties "honorably, compliantly, and diligently" and "to keep a scrupulously honorable moral conduct". In this oath book from the Vienna General Hospital, the physician's oath to which Freud abides is printed on the first page, and the subsequent pages are handwritten statements by the physicians at the hospital testifying they will abide by the oath. Freud's handwritten oath appears at the top of his page and translates to, "Everything that was read to me I have fully understood, I do hereby swear to fulfil precisely / Vienna 30 April 83 Dr Sigm Freud". The entire oath reads, "I will solemnly swear to fulfill my medical duties…honorably, compliantly, and diligently according to my best knowledge and to my conscience…to take all precautions for the care of the sick…to guard all secrets confided in me in the course of my duties, to make ready use of the ample opportunities…for the advancement of my scientific training, and to keep a scrupulously honorable moral conduct…I will not…be swayed by personal affection or dislike from such a manly, honorable conduct, nor will I abandon it on account of partiality or gifts." Light toning to pages, overall very good condition.
