Very rare autograph letter signed by 18th century philosopher and historian David Hume. Datelined Paris, 13 February 1764 when Hume was working at the British Embassy in France, he writes to Mr. White, a London bookseller: ''...This will be delivered to you by Monr. Prault, one of the most celebrated Booksellers of Paris, both for the Largeness of his Dealings, and the Probity and Integrity of his Conduct. I thought it might be useful to both of you to be acquainted with each other, and therefore recommend him to you: And I doubt not, but in every things, which you can do to serve and oblige him, he will find you very ready & willing. In doing so, you will also confer a Favour on Sir / Your most obedient & most humble Servant / David Hume''. Single page letter with docketing upon verso measures 6.5'' x 8.5''. Archival tape repair and mounting remnants to verso, small closed tear and spot of paper loss to right side, and small bit of paper loss to upper left. Overall very good plus condition.
