Autograph lyrics signed for ''Onward, Christian Soldiers'' by Sabine Baring-Gould, who wrote the perennially popular hymn in 1865, reportedly in a burst of creativity that took only 15 minutes. The hymn has since been sung at such important events as the Atlantic Charter in 1941, by The Salvation Army as its preferred processional, and often in Civil Rights protest. Single page measures 6.5'' x 11.75'', comprised of five 8-line stanzas, boldly signed at the conclusion ''S. Baring-Gould''. Folds, uniform toning, and expert restoration to verso, overall very good plus condition.
