Rudolph Valentino autograph letter signed ''Rodolfo'' as a young 15-year old but old enough, he confesses, to have acquired a ''a disease that I caught from streetwalkers''. Valentino writes to his childhood friend Bruno Pozzan from his home in Taranto, Italy on 22 June 1910 during a reprieve from his studies. Lengthy three-page letter in Italian translates in part, ''My dear Bruno...I'm getting ready for Venice, and I'll go there in September of next year to take my exam, and so if you're there for your vacation, I hope that we can see each other. / What have you been doing -- Did you pass? What about Lello, Ugo, Orlando and Memeo -- did they pass? Will you all go home? Will Riccardo go back to Barletta? Be sure to tell everybody to give me their addresses, so I can write to them during vacation; mine is, as always, Via Massari No. 12. / You and the others probably thought that I'd forgotten you after I left the school, but you can be sure that I'll never forget you, and that I'll never break the bonds of fraternal affection that we formed at school. / Now I'm at home, sick with a disease that I caught from streetwalkers, and I'm suffering so much that I don't want to continue the kind of idle and useless life that I've led up till now. / What is Rivolta doing; is he still in school? Let me know who's gone away. The Poet - what's he been doing? Is he still so proud of his own ignorance? / When you write, tell me how life is in school, and what the Poet has been doing from the time I left until now, and send me the addresses...Have you seen Wezelka? How is he? Is he still the custodian of the Insane Asylum? / Excuse the handwriting, but with being sick and with a bad stiff neck besides, I can't write very well...your affectionate friend / Rodolfo''. Letter on card-style, bifolium stationery measures 8.75'' x 7'' unfolded. Mounting remnant to corner of blank page, overall very good plus condition.
