Robert Baden-Powell lot of three autograph draft letters, all regarding the closing of a Boy Scout troop in Blackley, England. Baden-Powell first writes to a Mr. Wilde, telling him that he's sorry to hear that the Scouting branch of the Blakeley School is closing, as the ''method has been attracting a good deal of attention elsewhere and I had hoped this year to...allow some foreign school teachers to come and study your methods of applying scouting to the school training...'' The second letter follows, written to a Mr. Spurling, in part, ''I hear in Blackley Municipal School that the Ed[ucation] Comm. have closed the Scout classes. I know your interest in that experiment and if it is not broaching any confidential matter I should very much like to ask whether the closing [is attributable] to defects on the Scout side. If this was the case I should be anxious to amend our scheme in such a way as to bring it in favour again...I might seek to imitate the instruction of Scout training with school training elsewhere. When the experiment has been continued, as it has been at Blackley, for over ten years, there should be some useful deductions to be drawn from the results...I should very much like to hear them if it is permissible...'' The last letter continues to Mr. Gaddwin, again regretting closure of the Blackley experiment, writing that ''certainly on paper it looked good. I enclose letters for you to send on or not as you think fit...would you advise me when I ought to visit.'' Single page measures 6.5'' x 8'', written on both sides by Baden-Powell in pencil. Punch hole at upper left, and light wear. Overall very good plus condition.
