Interesting typed letter signed by Richard Nixon on 16 August 1985 regarding Nancy Reagan, commenting on the First Lady's shifting public opinion. Composed on his personal stationery, Nixon first mentions that his daughter Julie is writing a book about his wife Pat Ryan Nixon, and then discusses Nancy Reagan, ''...I wish you the best as you work with Mrs. Reagan. She has done an outstanding job in overcoming some of the negative media treatment she received earlier in the Administration and now rates as one of history's most successful and popular First Ladies...[signed] Richard Nixon. Early in Reagan's first term, Nancy Reagan was criticized for ordering new items for the White House during a time when the country was facing a recession. However, by 1985 the recovery was fully underway and her popularity rose in tandem. Single page letter measures 7.25'' x 10.5''. Folds, else near fine.
