President Ronald Reagan typed letter signed on official White House stationery, dated 6 July 1987. Letter is addressed to Mrs. Charles Grimm, wife of the late Charles Grimm, manager of the Chicago Cubs. Reads in full: ''Dear Marion: Thank you for your kind words about Nancy and myself, and your prayers. Just remember you are in our prayers too, and please be careful in your driving. You scared us with that trip to Rockford. We know how you feel about the absence of so many people we used to know. The ranks are thinning for those of us who are still hanging on. We just have to know they've gone through a door into that other place the Lord promised us, that place where there is no pain or sorrow. One day he'll open the door for each of us, and we'll be together again with friends and loved ones. But it's up to Him to decide when that happens. In the meantime, we make new friends. Nancy sends her best, as do I. We're looking forward to that book, so don't give up on it.'' Signed ''Ron'' in black ink. Letter is attached to mat measuring 8'' x 10''. Minor toning, else near fine.
