One of the first letters by the IWW -- informally known as the ''Wobblies'', from 1906, one year after the influential labor union formed. Letter is on official orange and black IWW letterhead, with their tagline at top, ''One Union! - One Label! - One Enemy!'' Distinct from the AFL by not accepting the premise of capitalism, the IWW was also notable for accepting unskilled workers in its ranks as well as women and immigrants. Letter is from local 178 of Seattle, composed by the local's financial secretary Anna Tewksbury, who writes to ''Fellow Worker'' E.D. Kinney of Hadley, Alaska regarding the payment of dues. Letter measures 8.5'' x 11'', complete with original envelope postmarked 11 December 1906. Some light discoloration and folds, with separation starting at edges. Overall very good condition.
