Original U.S. Consulate sign, circa early 1900s. The U.S. began setting up consulates and embassies worldwide around this time, and this sign commemorates the country's beginning attempts at foreign diplomacy. Circular sign reads: ''Consulate / United States of America'' and depicts the bald eagle holding a branch and arrows in his talons, with an ''E Pluribus Unum'' ribbon in his beak. Made of metal, sign weighs nearly 7 lbs. and measures 24'' in diameter. Includes punched holes for hanging. Dent to one portion of rim and minor surface wear, overall very good plus condition.
