Academy Award-winning actress and novelist Mary Astor typed letter signed, written to her literary agent Gloria Safier regarding edits to her book, ''A Place Called Saturday''. Dated only ''Sunday, 17th'', letter is from 17 September 1967, as it's accompanied by a letter from Safier dated 25 September 1967. Astor's letter reads in part, ''...The book will be in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday...I am including the first hundred pages of my carbon. There are quite a few corrections in it...I'm going down to Mexico Oct. 2 for a week or ten days. I would very much like to hear a reaction to the book before I leave, so that I can plan on just disappearing into the desert forever - or feel a little happy! / I really need a change! The distracting activities around this place have made concentration very tough. I was spoiled. Six years of writing with only the sound of the surf!...I've become an awful grouch! / You'll probably catch my piece in the Times on the advent of sound movies. They said they liked it. / Love, Mary''. Two page letter is stapled to two rice paper documents, both addressed to the book's editor Ross Clairborne. Letter measures 6.75'' x 9.75''. Folds, else near fine.
