Large diverse lot of signed documents, letters and photos by 19th and 20th century figures. Lot includes: (1) Douglas MacArthur typed letter signed, dated 12 February 1964, two months before his death. MacArthur thanks the recipient for birthday wishes. 8'' x 10'' letter is near fine. (2) Douglas MacArthur signed press photo taken on 6 November 1958, when MacArthur attended a ceremony on Governor's Island, where he was presented a new flag for the U.S. Army. Measures 8'' x 9.75''. Minor rippling and toning, otherwise near fine condition. (3) Bernard Montgomery photograph signed as Field Marshal, ''Montgomery of Alamein F.M.'' Measures 3.25'' x 5'', framed to 9'' x 11''. Very good plus condition. (4) Interesting Booker T. Washington typed letter signed, dated 11 January 1907. Measures 5.5'' x 7.25'', framed with a photograph of Washington to an overall size of 18.5'' x 13''. Partial smudge to signature, else near fine. (5) Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney autograph document twice-signed. Second signature appears on verso. Measures 8'' x 6.5''. Minor creasing and toning, overall very good condition. (6) Collection of 6 autograph letters signed by Urbaine Le Verrier, the French mathematician and astronomer who discovered Neptune in 1846.
