Fatally shot off his horse in the Battle of Atlanta, McPherson was the Union's only commander killed in action in the Civil War. CDV is backstamped ''Barr & Young / Army Photographers / Fort Pickering, / Memphis, Tennessee.'' Measures 2.5'' x 4''. Toning with a small spot of surface loss to the upper right, else very good.
