First edition of ''The Antarctic Book. Winter Quarters 1907-1909'' signed by all 16 members of the shore party of Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod expedition. London: William Heineman: 1909. This is the third volume of ''The Heart of the Antarctic,'' Shackleton's account of the expedition to the South Pole published upon his return to England in 1909. It is one of only 300 copies published. 16 signatures appear on the flyleaves under the heading, ''The British Antarctic Expedition / 1907 1909'' beginning with Ernest Shackleton. Book contains color portraits, including one of Shackleton, etched plates by George Marston and one small linocut. Minor soiling and residue from removed bookplate. Stamp for ''Park Home, Glasgow'' appears inside lower cover and on one page of text. Original vellum-backed boards measure 9'' x 11''. Very good condition. A scarce and highly collectible item from the early days of polar exploration.
