17th century broadside proclamation issued by King Charles II of England regarding ''Robbers or High-way-men''. The bandits, usually mounted, were the scourge of travelers and were typically hanged when caught. Dated 14 May 1681, broadside reads in part: ''...such person or persons, who shall at any time before the fifth day of May next, Apprehend any Robber or High-way-man, and cause him to be brought into custody, shall, within fifteen days after his Conviction, have a Reward of Ten Pounds for every such offender...'' Printed by assigns of John Bill, Thomas Newcomb, and Henry Hills. Distribution of broadsides on the streets was a popular means of royal communication with the public at the time. Measures 8.25'' x 13.25. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 11.5'' x 18.5''. Toning, creasing and slightly irregularly trimmed edges. Very good.
