Broadside from the English Civil War forbidding ministers from even mentioning the former Royals. Dated 10 July 1649 broadside reads, ''...Resolved, That if any minister shall directly or indirectly preach, or publiquely pray against the Power Authority or Proceedings of this present Parliament...or...in preaching...make mention of Charles Stuart, or James Stuart, Sons to the late King, who by judgment of Parliament are Declared Enemies...Or shall not keep and observe days of publique Humiliation or Thanksgiving...shall be deemed, taken and adjudged Delinquents...'' The Stuart princes had taken refuge in France after Parliament defeated King Charles and the Royalists in the English Civil War that year. Charles was executed and the entire monarchy was dissolved until 1660 when Charles II was reinstated as King. Broadside is printed for Edward Husband. Measures 9'' x 12.75''. Foxing, toning, and paper loss to the lower left corner. A scratch runs vertically from the top edge at right, separating for the first two inches. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 11'' x 18.5''. In good to very good condition.
