Emmy award presented in 2002 at the Technology & Engineering Emmys. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has held an annual ceremony for these awards since 1948. While the daytime and primetime Emmys recognize the achievements of those involved in television programming production, the Technology & Engineering Emmys honor individuals and companies whose technical innovations impact the physical process of broadcasting television. This Scientific Development and Technical Achievement award was won for the year 2001-2002. It was bestowed on tech firm Thomson for development of the consumer digital set top box for satellite and/or cable. Interestingly, there are no set categories for the Tech & Engineering Emmys; each innovation is recognized on its own merit to keep up with rapidly changing technological paradigms. The iconic winged woman holding an atom is made of metal and stands on the slightly convex, grid-lined surface of a round metal base. The base's flat perimeter reads ''The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences''. Front section is engraved naming the award, its recipient, and achievement. Measures 15.25'' in total height with a 7.5'' diameter base. Weighs 4 lbs., 4.75 oz. Black felt lining is affixed to underside. Near fine.
