Actor William Gillette typed letter boldly signed ''William Gillette'' with an additional postscript initialed ''WG''. The star of the first Sherlock Holmes play writes on letterhead bearing the name of his mansion, Seventh Sister in Hadlyme, Connecticut. His 17 April 1931 letter to Seymour Halpern, a future Congressman, reads: ''...I attribute my success to...Hard work, and the luck with me at two or three critical points...'' Measures 6.75'' x 10.75''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
