The star of the first Sherlock Holmes play writes on letterhead bearing the name of his mansion, Seventh Sister in Hadlyme, Connecticut. His 17 April 1931 letter to Seymour Halpern, a future Congressman, reads: ''...I attribute my success to...Hard work, and the luck with me at two or three critical points...'' Measures 6.75'' x 10.75''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
