Harry Houdini signed first edition of ''A Magician Among the Spirits'', his book debunking spiritualism. New York: Harper & Brothers, 1924. Inscribed in bold black fountain pen, Houdini writes on the front free endpaper, ''To my friend Birren / Best wishes / from / Houdini / May 14/24''. The recipient, Faber Birren, would later become a renowned color theorist but at this time worked at a bookstore which sold Houdini's books. The two became friends with Houdini even asking Birren to investigate self-proclaimed psychics and spiritualists, giving Houdini his opinion as to their veracity.
Book measures 6.5'' x 9.625'', bound in original publisher's boards but without wrappers. Light wear including uniform toning and separation starting to front hinge. Very good condition. Consigned by the family of Faber Birren.
