Moe Howard handwritten page from the draft of his autobiography, ''Moe Howard & the 3 Stooges''. In this manuscript, headed ''Born June 19, 1897'', Howard writes about being told he was ugly all his life, even at his birth, and how it affected him when he was a child. Moe writes in full:

''There was nothing to report at Birth time. My Dad intimated that I was an ugly, in fact somehow related to a shriveled up monkey. He really should only have thought of such a comparison rather than saying it aloud in the presence and within earshot of my Mother, for which he was loudly berated and was reminded by my Mother that as an infant, he was no cutie pie or bargain himself and luckily in time was fortunate to have outgrown his monkee like looks, where upon Dad replied, 'I do hope he will be half as fortunate and added that Irving, Jack and Sam, as infants, were quite cute looking, and this boy was supposed to be a girl. Jessup the butcher said it would be a girl and for that prognosis, I buy no more meat in his shop. So if he turns out not so beautiful perhaps he will be the smartest of all - including you was my Mother's retort. These were my bed time stories as told to me by my Mother. So many of these stories were told to me by both my Mother and Dad at bed time. They were burned into my memory forever. I listened enthralled and kept them all in my memory box way back in the deep reaches of my mind. And now how easy for me to recall at this late date every detail at one point in my life. I kept staring into my mirror so very often seeing my face with large jagged freckles. It almost made me feel like my Dad was going to be right and I would be the ugly duckling. But strangely enough it was those jagged freckles that stood me in good stead during 1908-1909 and 1910.''

Single page manuscript on lined yellow legal paper measures 8'' x 12.5''. Light creasing, toning and soiling, overall very good condition.
