Hunter S. Thompson typed letter signed ''H'' in type with Thompson circling his initial. On custom stationery of Owl Farm, his home in Woody Creek, Colorado, Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin about his ''first encounter'' with Ajax Mountain, the original name of the Aspen ski resort. He also writes about the paperback of his Hell's Angels book ''selling fatly, but so far I haven't received a pfenig''. Fun and interesting letter dated 6 December 1967 reads in small part,

''Dear Hero of the People......Cold around zero here and I'm wracked with aches from my first encounter with Ajax.....I came down it today like Ty Cobb stealing third...Where are you going to be for the week between Xmas and New Year's day?...I wonder about human contact in the grog season. I think I'd be better off wasting the weekend in NY than in KY...My reason for coming is hard and bitter negotiation. I hear rumors that the paperback HA [''Hell's Angels''] is selling fatly, but so far I haven't received a pfenig. Beyond that, my only significant mail concerns lawsuits, so I need some firsthand grappiing with all principals...I know you plan a ski vacation in Hungary sometime soon, but I wonder if this is the time. I wonder about a lot of things, but mainly about how large an advance I can get before the shitrain strikes...H''. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds and light toning, overall very good plus condition.
