Rare invitation to the Statue of Liberty inauguration, held at Bedloe's Island, New York Harbor in 1886. Originally known as ''Liberty Enlightening the World,'' the statue was designed by French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi as a gift of friendship from France. The 151-foot statue was shipped over in more than 200 packing cases and reassembled, with the last rivet fitted on 28 October 1886 during this dedication presided over by President Grover Cleveland. Invitation in calligraphy reads in part: ''...You are invited to be present on the occasion of the inauguration by the President of the United States, of the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World...'' Tiffany designed card features a gold embossed wreath with crossed flags, and an image of the Statue on its pedestal, with the shields of both the United States and France. Measures 7.5'' x 5.5''. Toning and light discoloration, overall very good condition.
