Richard Nixon handwritten notes, detailing some of his conservative views on economics. Note is from a collection of handwritten Nixon documents collected by his biographer and New York Herald Tribune political journalist Earl Mazo, who wrote, ''Richard Nixon: A Political and Personal Portrait''. Published in 1959, the book's source material was written near or before 1958 when Nixon was Vice President. Underlined in pencil at top, Nixon writes ''...government is inefficient / stultifying...'', underneath which he states ''Economy - (1) govt. v. private (2) The Individual [crossed out] (2) Balanced budget (5 year outlook) (1) Cost of living - (3) Education - fits in? -'' He notes that ''...any new program should be submitted to that test / Power - public/private...'' and writes a note, presumably to himself to ''clear up - where you stand'' on the issue of economics to the public. Handwritten document is one page on yellow legal paper measuring 8'' x 12.5''. Near fine.
