Notes are from a collection of handwritten Nixon documents collected by Nixon's biographer and New York Herald Tribune political journalist Earl Mazo, who wrote, ''Richard Nixon: A Political and Personal Portrait''. Published in 1959, the book's source material was written near or before 1958, when Nixon was Vice President. This sheet reads in pencil, ''Recognize - ideological - / 1) Fight communism? yes but more 2) People don't want to be pawns - 3) How? - 4) Change - is the surest thing - People must be educated as to the character of the Communist appeal - + as to need - / 1) Military 2) [illegible] 3) Exchange - 4) National Spirit - Total effect -''. To the left of this list Nixon has crossed out the word ''Domestically'' and replaced it with ''greatest needs''. Runs one page and measures 5.5'' x 5.75''. Perforation runs through center. Near fine.
