John Steinbeck signed first edition of ''East of Eden'' in its original slipcase. New York: Viking Press, 1952. One of just 1,500 first edition copies signed by the author, 750 of which were intended for private distribution. Signed, ''John Steinbeck'' in blue ink to limitation page. Bound in publisher's green cloth boards with titles stamped in gilt on the front board and spine, housed in original faux wood-grain slipcase. Measures 6.75'' x 9.75''. Slipcase is lightly chipped, overall very good condition. Rear hinge of book is starting ever so slightly, otherwise near fine condition.
