Pat Nixon typed letter signed as First Lady. Upon White House stationery, Mrs. Nixon writes to Mrs. McNamara, wife of Vietnam-era Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, dating her letter 7 October 1970. At this point Robert McNamara was President of the World Bank. Letter reads in part, ''...thoughtful of you to write to me and to enclose the materials on your Reading is Fundamental program. It is delightful to be back in Washington once again, although the European visit was most rewarding. I know that you, having just returned from Copenhagen, are familiar with the joy of returning to family and friends and familiar obligations...[signed] Patricia Nixon''. 1pp. measures 6.25'' x 9.25''.
