Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed as Lt. General in WWII. From his underground headquarters in Gibraltar, he commands the Allied invasion of North Africa, and takes a moment to write his wife, Mamie. Undated, though accompanying envelope is postmarked 12 November 1942. Letter reads in part: ''Darling...This reminded me that I wanted to get off a note to you - the days go so fast I can't even keep track of them! But you know that I do try to keep you informed, by these hasty scrawls, that I'm still well & going strong. Today I'm desperately trying to get out to Gen's hqrs but it looks as if a fog has licked me & well there's plenty to do here...I haven't written [son] John for some days - not because I don't want to - but because I'm always on the jump. I hope he understands...always remember I do love you, will you? As ever / Ike''. With original envelope postmarked 12 November 1942. 2pp. letter measures 7'' x 9''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
