Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed. He writes to his wife Mamie in April 1940 as their son John Eisenhower was accepted into West Point. John incidentally graduated from West Point on D-Day, the operation his father was commanding. Letter reads: ''Darling...We're on a problem today; but I got a half an hour vacation while I'm waiting at the regiment to pick up another officer...I'm living in the field steadily until next Wednesday. Then I get a few days breathing space - then five days more...I'm enclosing a statement of John's qualifications etc, made up by Milton & me, between us. I expect to mail copies to persons that I want to get endorsements from, if necessary. (The reason the statement talks so much about the Eisenhowers, is because we must establish Johns claim to Kansas connections.) Tell Johnny to write Milton a note at once, since I'm too rushed to do so at this moment. Acknowledge his nice invitation (see letter attached), but tell him (Milton) that if J goes to Millard he is required to be a boarder. However, he can have week ends off, and I should think he'd be GLAD to spend those with Milton. Tell J. to let me know how his pictures come out. Lots of love to you both - I certainly do miss you...Your devoted Ike''. 2pp. letter on ruled stationery measures 6'' x 9''. Creasing, else near fine.
