Pierre Lacau typed letter signed, ''P Lacau'' as Egypt's official Director of Antiquities regarding King Tut's tomb and its discoverer and excavator Howard Carter. Datelined Cairo, 18 February 1924, correspondence in French is headed, ''Note on visiting the grave and transport objects.'' Text translates, ''If he breaks the contract, Mr. Carter has the right to take all the material that belongs to him and those employed in the grave. In addition, the lighting equipment (consists of three strong special electric lamps) should be replaced by a system of lighting provided by us. The scaffolding and hoists that support the cover belong to him...The visit is necessarily delayed and we can not announce yet. In my opinion, it would be preferable to only allow their Excellencies the Ministers to visit...For the packaging and transport of objects that are in the grave N. 15, it will, even after termination of the contract, agree with Mr. Carter that we can proceed methodically and avoid confusion at the time of unpacking the Museum.'' Sheet measures 8.25'' x 13.5''. Tears to filing holes on the left edge and toning, else near fine.
