Brooklyn Bridge opening ceremony commemorative piece. The image of New York's bridge is die-pressed on a wooden tile made from a surplus of the beams used in the actual construction. These souvenirs were distributed by Lord & Taylor department store for the grand opening on 24 May 1883. Verso is pressed with a dozen lines of facts including the bridge's measurements and the names of its engineers. Measures 4.25'' x 2.75''. Some darkening to wood, else near fine. A rare keepsake, scarcer than the Tiffany invitations to the ceremony.
