Written from Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania on 7 October 1917, Grey writes in full: ''Books are good, but there is nothing better for a boy than familiarity with trees and flowers and birds and fish, and all that pertains to the outdoors. Zane Grey''. Single page in black ink measures 5.75'' x 7.25''. Framed with a photograph of Grey to a size of 19'' x 16.25''. Signature on note lightly faded, else near fine.
