Robert Stroud typed letter signed from prison. The ''Bird Man'' writes to his sister on 9 March 1942, in part, ''...I have seven pair of birds mated, but the only hen that has good eggs is the one I traded for the little finch. She is setting on four eggs and I believe that two of them are good...I did not want to touch them or put them in too strong a light. I would sure like to get about ten birds from them. My orange pair had four eggs that I was very hopeful of, but several days after the hen was set I found all of them punctured. The next time I think I will take that cock out and see how things go then. I am pretty sure that the hen did not do it...If this book goes over anyways near like it should, the first thing I am going to do will be to make arrangements so that you will not have to worry about what you eat or how you are going to get along...A world of love, Bob, [signed] Robert Stroud...'' Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Light toning, else near fine.
