Panama Canal Construction Supervisor, George W. Goethals pens this letter to General Abbot on 5 May 1897. On U.S. Army, Chief of Engineers letterhead, Goethals writes ''...Gen. Milton sent a letter to the Secy. of War on the 27th relative to stoppages against you on the books of the Treas. Dept...Yours very respectfully Geo. W. Goethals''. From 1904 to 1914, Goethals supervised the construction of the Panama Canal, one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World. On two sheets measuring 5'' x 8''. Some chipping and toning, else near fine.
