Drum from the U.S. Infantry during the Civil War. Snare drum is made of wood painted with an eagle and shield design in red, white and blue. The eagle carries in its beak a ribbon painted, ''Reg: U.S. Infantry''. Drums were crucial in the Civil War as the chief means of communication between commanders and their soldiers on the battlefield. Drum is held together with 39 brass tacks, ropes and three tighteners. Measures 16'' in diameter x 11.5'' in height. Crack to top on the drum head, two tears in lower head and one loose tightener, overall very good give age.
