Ronald Reagan autograph letter signed as Governor of California. Letter dated 29 June 1967 is addressed to Mortimer Danenberg in Orangevale, California, and appears to be a draft for his secretary to type, as Reagan writes to the upper margin, ''Kathy send this letter + copy of my reply to Phil with word that we should have one see this guy but talk to me first.'' Letter then reads in full, ''Dear Dutch, I heard you had been in the office after my return and am sorry we missed connections. Evidently what happened and caused the mix-up in the outer office was my coming back to the office from a meeting in the Capitol bldg. + ducking down the the back elevator to make a meeting away from the office. Since then as you know I've been out of the city. I'm still as firmly convinced as ever that the rank + file of labor are not to be put in the same package with labors top brass. you ask what have I done with regard to the rank + file who voted for me and I'm afraid I can only point to what we've tried to do. My bill to give union members a secret ballot lies buried in a committee on a straight party line vote. Every Rep. on the committee voted for the bill + every Dem. against. They still out number us. This has happened to other measures. In fact I have learned our opposition sent out an order to let no labor legislation out of committee. I have no intention of suffering in silence. When the score is in on this session the people will be told of those measures that were defeated on a partisan basis and they will be told that I'll continue to present them until they are passed. We'll get in touch with you / Best Regards / R.R.'' 2pp. letter in blue ink on a single sheet of stationery measures 6'' x 9''. Near fine.
